The Waterslide

"The Waterslide" by Brett A. Bodway

“The Waterslide” (ISBN 1469926059) by the late Brett A. Bodway shows how children can learn to face their fears and experience the joy of finding their true gifts. Bodway’s son, Grant, was the inspiration in writing this story about the adventures children experience in summer camp and how it can ultimately shape them as they grow into adulthood.

After the author’s death in March 2010, his wife, Karen, found his writings from years ago tucked away in a drawer. She always knew he wanted to publish a children’s story, but the business of life kept the author from fulfilling this dream. As a tribute to his memory, Karen decided to publish his story.

Set along the shore of a northern Minnesota lake, Grant ventures off to summer camp where a camp Olympics is held. He is faced with the anxiety of what team he’ll be chosen for and what event he will have to participate in. Will he succeed in his own event and help bring home the gold medal for his team?

The late author’s wife states that 10 percent of author royalties from sales of “The Waterslide” will be donated to the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program. Her son, Grant, is a part of this program and is matched with a big brother, Brandon. A full page in the book’s interior is devoted to information about this program. Karen states that her late husband always wanted to make a difference, and she is able to fulfill that wish for him through this donation.

One Amazon customer states, “This book was really easy to follow, has eye-catching artwork and best of all… a positive message. Just the motivation some children will need to face their ‘giants’ and find a sense of accomplishment once they do. I also appreciate that proceeds from the book benefit the Big Brother/Big Sister program.” Another reader wrote, “I just read this book and loved it. The story teaches a good lesson about facing your fears and finding the things you are good at.”

“The Waterslide” is available for sale online at Amazon.com, through the CreateSpace e-store on the book’s website, www.thewaterslide.com and other channels.
