"Transcendental Basketball Blues" by Mike Pemberton

The story takes place in Central Illinois during the 1970s. Jack Henderson is a top-notch basketball player. His mother, Mary Lou, is a talented musician, his father, Sam, town mayor. Jack leans on his basketball coach, Reggie Collins, and the rest of his team as they compete for the Illinois high school championship. He realizes that his love of basketball is similar to his mother’s love of music.  Together, mother and son use this common ground to strive for the peace of mind that the entire family seeks.
