CVST’s Abby Forman qualifies for Florida Swimming Age Group Championships (FLAGS)

Ten-year-old from Tampa beat the FLAGS qualifying time by more than a second.

Ten-year-old Abby Forman of Tampa made her first Florida Swimming Age Group Championship (FLAGS) qualifying time in the 10 & Under Girls 50-yard Butterfly category, the Carrollwood Village Swim Team (CVST) announced today.

Forman achieved the time at the Gulf Coast Swim Team Winter Invitational held at the Florida Gulf Coast University Aquatic Center in Fort Myers.  

Forman’s time of :35.31 was a personal best time by two seconds and beat the FLAGS qualifying time of :36.79 by a second-and-a-half.
Forman has been working with Randy Johnson, Head Age Group Coach, on setting her goal times and planning race strategies while applying them in her workouts four to five times per week.

 “Abby is a great kid and when she focuses all of her energy into her swimming she can do just about anything.  This was just the beginning for Abby,” said Johnson.

About CVST: Carrollwood Village Swim Team (CVST) is a year-round competitive swim program, which swims under the guidance of USA Swimming, Inc., and Florida Swimming, Inc. and is affiliated with Emerald Greens Golf Resort & Country Club, through membership requirements and is affiliated with the Private Club League (PCL).  The purpose of the CVST organization is to select, train, and develop swimmers of various ages and abilities, ranging from younger and beginning swimmers to nationally ranked senior competitors.  While competition is important, the CVST Coaching Staff feels that self-discipline, sportsmanship, and the team camaraderie that swimming offers will be lifelong benefits to all participants.

About Randy Johnson: Randy Johnson CVST’s Head Age Group Coach, joined the CVST Coaching Staff in 1991.  He is a University of Illinois graduate and comes to CVST form Belvidere, Illinois.  There he was Head Coach for the Belvidere Barracudas Swim Team, where he had great success with his Age Group swimmers.  He is also a former Age Group swimmer and YMCA National Qualifier.  Randy is also a past Age Group Chairman, on the Florida Swimming Board of Directors.  His primary responsibilities with CVST are with the Silver-Gold and Senior II Practice Groups, although he does oversee all aspects of the CVST Age Group program.  Randy is also the Head Coach for the CVST Masters Program.
