Over the course of his life, Stephen M. Nadukkudiyil has seen and experienced more than the average man. From his troubled childhood to five decades-worth of teaching in the United States and across the world, “The Anatomy of Survival: An Odyssey of Global Adventures” (ISBN 1461119200) celebrates how one man beat the odds and created a successful life for himself.
Nadukkudiyil takes readers to the small South Indian town of Aluva, where he grew up. He retells the stories of different people and places that shaped him into the man he is today. He introduces readers to ordinary individuals who are prone to loving, mistakes and vulnerability.
As the characters grow older in the story, Nadukkudiyil takes readers through important moments in the history of India and the countries where he taught, such as Yemen, Ethiopia and Nigeria. He combines anecdotes with history to bring events of the past to life for present generations.
“‘The Anatomy of Survival’ is more than just a memoir,” Nadukkudiyil says. “It is the celebration of triumph and success in the face of adversity.”
Through the course of 57 chapters, Nadukkudiyil takes his readers on a global adventure. He exposes them to cultures he encountered, the countries he lived in and the insights he gained in regard to social and political changes occurring throughout the world. He hopes that his experiences inform and entertain readers who may not have been able to experience these parts of the world yet.
