Growing up in a family whose core values were inspired by the toughness of Philadelphia helped prepare businessman David McCall for the hardships and years of sacrifices he faced in a down economy.

Now, he and his family-owned and operated company, Double Letter Innovations, are making a splash in the iPhone poker app market with new twists on old ideas. McCall creates unique casino games that focus on customer experiences over profits.

McCall spent most of his working career as a professional casino dealer and pit supervisor. He’s worked in casinos across America, including the Luxor in Las Vegas and Claridge Casino in Atlantic City, N.J. He saw that poker games often gave consumers a better bang for their buck, and decided to use that insight to create a new iPhone poker app with better options for players.

Originally, the plan was to use a variation of poker and Yahtzee to create a slot machine, competing with traditional video poker machines. After years of unsuccessfully trying to persuade slot manufactures that he had a winner, he found the opportunity he needed.

“I saw on a news story that an eight-year-old created an app for the iPhone,” McCall says. “So I decided to switch gears, and created a poker app for the iPhone instead.”

The iPhone poker app, Poker Dice I, combines the rules of poker with the family fun of Yahtzee. The user rolls McCall’s patented dice, like in Yahtzee, and the elements of a poker game are added through the card suits on the dice.

McCall says his company’s design gives users more options to win the most credits.

“Double Letter Innovations strives to bring every Poker Dice I player just a little bit of happiness that traditional casino games often don’t provide,” he says. “With this tough economy, we hope this iPhone poker app will make users smile.”

The app has a rules page where the Oregon-based company added a special dedication message thanking users for playing. It’s a small gesture that McCall believes will show the user how Double Letter Innovations operates differently.

The Poker Dice I app for iPhone was released on September 30, and is available in 123 countries via the iTunes store. It retails for a one-time fee of $1.99, and has received a five-star rating from all submitted customer reviews.

About David McCall: David McCall created the iPhone poker app after working in the gaming industry for more than two decades. After starting his career as a dealer in Atlantic City, N.J., McCall moved to Las Vegas to open the Luxor Hotel and Casino.  He has had the idea to create a poker and Yahtzee combination slot machine for many years, receiving a patent for his idea of dice with suits instead of spots on the faces in 2006.  He started Double Letter Innovations with his father and two older brothers. The family run business is determined to operate “differently than others.”  Neither McCall nor Double Letter Innovations has any affiliation to the game Yahtzee or its manufacturers.
