Royal Palms Senior Living community, on The Palms of Largo campus, is hosting the Kids and Kubs preseason opener of their annual seniors only softball league. The game will be held at the Largo Sports Complex on November 1, at 10 a.m.

While The Palms of Largo campus has partnered with the Kids and Kubs season opener event before, this will be the first year in which the Royal Palms Senior Living community will host the event. Residents of Royal Palms will be amongst the crowd cheering on the veterans while enjoying peanuts and Cracker Jacks.

There will be two games played on November 1 with the last game ending around noon. A lunch will be served at Royal Palms Senior Living community’s dining room, located just behind the Largo Sports Complex.  This lunch will be free for attendees who RSVP before the event. Attendees may have the option of purchasing lunch without RSVP.

Kids and Kubs is a softball club that offers memberships to those who are 75 years or older, dubbing themselves the ‘three-quarter century softball club of St. Petersburg, Fla.’ Their annual softball season runs from November 1 through April 1, and games are played at the North Shore field in St. Petersburg.

“The Royal Palms community is excited to be hosting such a fun-filled event. We have had a great crowd for this event in the past, and we always enjoy the festivities surrounding a storied organization like the Kids and Kubs,” says Chris Ayral, activity services director at The Royal Palms.

The club started playing softball in 1931 with intentions of being a social “quilting” club. The group was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 1938, and traditionally collected donations at the events to donate to charitable organizations, specifically All Children’s Hospital.
