Who knew bowling could be so fun and educate at the same time? It certainly can.
The 4th Annual Jason Ackerman Memorial Bowl-A-Thon held Sunday, August 28, 2011 raised over $35,000 to be allocated towards scholarship funding for children who have survived tragedy and are committed to thrive in a career of their choice.
The sold-out event packed Pin Chasers on Hillsborough Avenue with local celebrities on nearly every lane from television and radio media mixed in with a bit of baseball, football and hockey. Current and former athletes representing the Buccaneers, Tampa Bay Rays, Tampa Bay Lightning and Tampa Bay Storm showered the attendees with their athletic abilities and charm.
A sample of celebrity attendees include: Marty St.Louis, Dwayne Roloson, Matt ‘Spice’ Loyd, Adam Hayward, Dekoda Watson, Quincy Black, Elbert Mack and 21 more!
Survivors themselves, Ron and Tina Ackerman hosted the annual event in memory of their son Jason. A young man who lost his life 5 years ago in a tragic accident. The family is now driven to help survivors of health issues or tragic circumstances by providing financial assistance toward their educational goals.
“This has been so overwhelming. To have so many of our friends and wonderful people we don’t even know want to assist our foundation in helping these kids. We’re just so grateful.” says foundation chairman Ron Ackerman, “Our hope is to continue to grow and help as many as possible realize their dreams.”
Applications for scholarships will be available spring of 2012 at www.jasonackermanfoundation.org and will be awarded to grant recipients July 2012.
