(PRNewsChannel) / December 23, 2009 / Orlando, Fla. / Dr. Stephanie Haridopolos says the average person will not see any problems following the latest H1N1 vaccination recall. AstraZeneca recalled 4.7 million doses of the nasal vaccine after routine tests showed a decline in potency.
“Basically, the unused vaccines became weaker over time,” says the Orlando family practitioner. “The drug maker recalled the product because it wants to ensure everyone gets a proper dose. People who were already given the nasal vaccine have nothing to worry about.”
This is the second H1N1 vaccine recall this month. A week ago, Sanofi-Aventis recalled 800,000 doses of its children vaccine because it had also lost some potency.
“It is uncommon to have two vaccine recalls in a single flu season,” said Dr. Haridopolos. “But you have to keep in mind that the vaccines are made from live organisms, so it can decrease in potency over time.”
