Stephanie Haridopolos, M.D., competes in DANCING WITH BREVARD.
(PRNewsChannel) / May 26, 2010 / ORLANDO, Fla. / For those who already suffer from DANCING WITH STARS withdrawal, they might be interested to know of a local competition with a similar name and theme takes place next weekend in Orlando. It features some local celebrities and leaders--including John Travolta's SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER choreographer who's struttin' with wife of incoming Florida Senate president Mike Haridopolos.
The exquisite, petite Stephanie Haridopolos, MD, pairs up with Deney Terrio—John Travolta's personal choreographer for the 1977 smash—to compete in DANCING WITH BREVARD, an annual event to benefit the non-profit KLD Youth Foundation, Inc. Since 2002, the Merritt Island organization has empowered and educated those Brevard County students who experience behavioral issues stemming from incurable disorders and homelessness. KLD Youth Foundation offers educational and social interaction outside the classroom and extends a helping hand through tutoring, counseling and abstinence awareness programs.
Over the next two hours, 160 children will drop out of school. Another 500 will abuse prescription drugs. Dr. Stephanie Haridopolos, a family doctor and the future First Lady of the Florida Senate, has pledged to raise at least $10,000 for these at-risk youth by strapping on her dancing shoes.
"I'm honored to be one of more than thirty dancers to help these students who are often left behind. Every penny I raise will benefit the KLD Youth Foundation, so a win for me will be a win for them," says Haridopolos, a mother of three who works with local organizations to spread the message of preventative medical care for men and women.
DANCING WITH BREVARD will host 15 of Brevard County’s strongest community leaders and their professional dancer partners. The groups will compete in a ballroom competition scored by an award-winning panel of judges. The overall scores will be based on dance performance, as well as each team's ability to raise money for the KLD Youth Foundation.
Stephanie Haridopolos will compete in DANCING WITH BREVARD Sat., June 5, at Rosen Shingle Creek Resort & Golf Center, 9939 Universal Blvd., Orlando, at 7:00 p.m. Haridopolos recently helped victims of the Haiti earthquake through local outreach programs and assists veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. You may donate any amount of money to this event in Dr. Stephanie Haridopolos' name by visiting www.dancingwithbrevard.org.
