(PRNewsChannel) / December 15, 2009 / Chicago, Ill. / While the future of national health care remains up in the air, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Daniel Ivankovich represents a one-man reform machine in one of the country's poorest areas.
"I do reform every single day," says Ivankovich. "This gives me the opportunity to shine a light on goodness, strike a spark, ignite a flame and burn down some walls of hypocrisy."
Many doctors avoid treating Medicaid patients. Ivankovich, who performs more than 800 spine and joint surgeries a year in urban Chicago, takes his practice to patients who can't afford to see him. And he's always on call.
"The power behind true reform is the basic need to do good, and to help our brothers and sisters," says Ivankovich. The people who witness his good deeds in the ghettos of Chicago refer to him as The Right Reverand - Doctor Dan.
At six feet, ten inches tall, Ivankovich's appearance has become well known in Chicago hospital lobbies. His goatee and big black hat have become synonymous with a patient doctor who treats children and adults in need at a fraction of the cost. To him, it's the care of patients that comes first, not politics or payment.
