Business Fires Back after OH Gov. 'Dismisses' Lawsuit that Accuses Him of Sitting on Stimulus Money

(PRNewsChannel) / November 23, 2009 / Columbus, Ohio / The Illinois business that sued Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland for neglecting his professional duties after he allegedly sat on nearly $2-billion in federal stimulus money that could've put thousands to work, upped the ante today and filed another complaint because the governor failed to do more than send a 'boilerplate response' to its court filing over the summer.

"Governor Strickland's office has not cooperated beyond the initial boilerplate response," says Jay Edelson, whose law firm KamberEdelson represents the company that took the governor to court. "First he failed to disperse money in a timely fashion and now he's failed to comply with his legal obligations. He obviously believes he's above the law."

Lawyers in July filed a 'writ of mandamus' with the Ohio Supreme Court to compel the governor to perform his duties correctly, and insists the governor intentionally slowed down the process of accessing the economic stimulus money for political reasons and put thousands of struggling construction workers in financial dire straits.

The company says it planned to do business in Ohio until it learned that the projects it hoped to work on were delayed because the stimulus money had not arrived.

According to the newest complaint, after the governor failed to send documents or respond in any way after his initial boilerplate letter, lawyers sent another letter "requesting assurances that the requested documents will be produced." But the governor did neither and attorney Edelson has again taken action in an attempt to put struggling workers back on the job.

"In this climate of economic struggle and double-digit unemployment, I'm stunned that basic FOIA requests and basic compassion appears to be lip service and just more ineffective government stone-walling and delays.  The people of our nation deserve better."
