(PRNewsChannel) / November 05, 2009 / Tampa, Fla. / As the U.S. House of Representatives nears its vote on health care, Tampa dermatologist Dr. Seth Forman is urging lawmakers to make put pressure on insurance companies to provide better care for their patients.
“Most of the managed-care companies and HMOs made a profit in the third quarter and still want to raise premiums for customers,” says the Tampa dermatologist. “It’s alarming.”
Dr. Forman says another problem is just how much money insurance companies are spending on their customers’ care. “Many states do not set minimum limits on how much of every premium dollar has to go to medical care,” Dr. Forman points out. “A lobby group estimates the health insurance industry spent an average of 87 cents of every premium dollar on patient care. The rest of that was spent on advertising and other expenses.” As a Tampa dermatologist, he's seeing this firsthand.
“Insurances companies are making it difficult for doctors to practice medicine,” says the Tampa dermatologist. “Most of the time they deny new medications and procedures, making it difficult to give patients the best care possible.”
