(PRNewsChannel) / November 02, 2009 / Titusville, Fla. / Orlando swine flu expert, Dr. Stephanie Haridopolos, is urging people to roll up their sleeves and get the H1N1 vaccine if it is available. Dr. Haridopolos will be a guest on “Light Talk with Donna & Friends” on WPIO today to discuss the swine flu and its vaccine.
“More H1N1 vaccines are becoming available, but many of those at risk are passing on the shot,” points out the Orlando area family practitioner. “The vaccine is the best prevention for this illness.”
Dr. Haridopolos says if the vaccine is not available, there are things you can do to help reduce your chance of contracting the H1N1 virus. She suggests washing your hands, staying hydrated and getting plenty of rest will help. “It is also a good idea to eat immune boosting foods, like green leafy vegetables, fruits and fish," she says. "Caffeine and fatty foods can slow your metabolism, compromising your immune system. Alcohol is also an immune suppressant.”
