(PR NewsChannel) / November 02, 2010 / CHICAGO / Rod Blagojevich, the former governor of Illinois, says he's not surprised that Republicans picked up as many seats as they did during the midterm elections, including, if the numbers continue trending the way they have, the senate seat once occupied by President Obama.

"Two years ago we Democrats were elected on a message of change and hope and now unemployment has increased and there's less hope," says Blagojevich, the former twice elected governor of Illinois.

Blagojevich was an election analyst on Fox Business Network, along with Sarah Palin, the former governor of Alaska and Republican vice-president candidate, Gov. Tim Pawlenty from Minnesota and Rep. Newt Gingrich, the former Speaker of the House.

Blagojevich says Democrats were handed defeats because the party has not delivered on the promises that swept them into office in record numbers.

"We Democrats have not solved the problems or provided a vision of how to solve the problems... and President Obama is most responsible for that," says Blagojevich.

On the program, speaking to anchor Neil Cavuto, Blagojevich offered this advice to Republicans who might be thinking about celebrating.

"Republicans need to solve problems... don't block through gridlock," said Blagojevich.

The former governor says the president needs to fix the problem or his support will continue to erode.

"We have to fix the economy for President Obama to be re-elected.  I still have hope," said Blagojevich.
