Tampa, Fla. / Dr. Seth Forman warns his patients about the dangers of tanning daily. The Tampa dermatologist says the new MTV reality show 'Jersey Shore' is glamorizing tanning, a practice that can be deadly.
"The young adults on 'Jersey Shore' think tanned skin is important. Some even own their own tanning bed," says the Tampa dermatologist. "It’s ridiculous. I think young adults don’t realize how much damage they are doing to the skin."
Dr. Forman says tanning at a young age can increase a person's cancer risk by 75%. He also points out "ultraviolet light causes premature aging."
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States.
"More than a million people are diagnosed with skin cancer each year," explains Dr. Forman."People, including the cast of 'Jersey Shore,' need to skip the tanning beds and make sure to wear sunscreen every day."
