(PRNewsChannel) / December 17, 2009 / Tampa, Fla. / For some companies that rely on the BlackBerry, it's been a nightmare of a day so far.  There are widespread BlackBerry outages reported.

Research In Motion Ltd. (NASDAQ:RIMM), maker of the BlackBerry phone, says BlackBerry E-Mail service has been interrupted and some companies, like Selig Multimedia, Inc. based in Tampa, haven't received an email on its BlackBerry phones since the middle of the night.  The company says its the BlackBerry outages is affecting every one of its employees that uses a BlackBerry.

"Thankfully we receive emails through Outlook and pop servers," says Glenn Selig, CEO of Selig Multimedia, Inc. which runs the press release distribution company PRNewsChannel and the full service publicity/crisis management PR firm The Publicity Agency.  "If we relied entirely on BlackBerry we'd be in a world of hurt.  If I were travelling right now I'd be hurting."

RIM, based in Waterloo, Ontario, told Bloomberg.com that technicians are working on the problem.

BlackBerry competes head to head with Apple Inc.'s iPhone and has 32 million subscribers worldwide.

The outage is affecting all BlackBerry users, regardless of their carrier, who use RIM’s Internet-based e-mail service instead of corporate servers.  Such is the case for Selig Multimedia.
