‘Work from Home’ Scams on the Rise as Economy Tightens

Web site tests hundreds of offers for legitimacy to protect consumer.

(PRNewsChannel) / Denton, Texas – Frank Matthews is a one-man band out to make sure the bad economy doesn’t lead to average consumers getting ripped off and singing the blues.

“I’m sick of the ‘get rich quick’ schemes,” Matthews said. “Someone is getting rich quickly, but it’s not you.”

According to Matthews, rebate processing scams are currently the worst culprit.

Matthews created the Web site Scammer-Alert.com to expose the scams.  He relies heavily on the public to report companies to him.

In the heat of this rough economic slowdown, Matthews is getting more e-mails asking about the so-called ‘rebates from home’ position often seen advertised.  It appears to be an easy way to make money from home with very little work dealing in rebates.

You’ve seen ads on Google, Yahoo or MSN like:
-Rebate Processing At Home. Make Up To $250+ Per Day - 100% Money Back Guarantee - Join Today!
-At Home Rebate Processor. It's This Simple 20 Rebates a Day = $109,500 a Year! 100% Guarantee.
-Make Money Process Rebate. Unique, Risk-Free Trial Offer! If Not Happy, Full Refund Guaranteed.

“It’s a hot topic right now, but it’s a dead end,” Matthews said.

Almost every rebate job he bought into failed his test.  They were disguised as an easy way to make money.

“The reality is there are no rebate processing jobs that you can do from home. The majority of people looking for this type of work will get scammed. This is because 100% of all the home rebate processing jobs are frauds,” he says.

Matthews began this quest to reveal the ‘rebates from home’ scam among others after he – like many Americans – tried to make some extra cash on-line. For the last decade, Matthews says he’s dealt with almost every money scam in the books – from on-line search engines, auction websites, even TV commercials.

On his website – Scammer-Alert.com – he’s also posting the few job programs that DO work. Admittedly, Matthews says there aren’t many true work-from-home jobs on-line but he’s dedicating time to help people who have fallen for the same schemes he has in the past.

As the economy tightens, Matthews worries there could be more and more people falling victim to on-line scams.  Fake rebate processing jobs are just the beginning.
