(PRNewsChannel) / June 17, 2008 / Tampa, Fla. – Nobody seems to know why it happens. But a product called the ‘Sock Cop’ may prevent socks from ever getting lost again during the laundry cycle.
The Sock Cop is the creation of Tampa police officer Rich O’Connor, who after his wife became frustrated with constantly losing socks, began tinkering in the garage and came up with the idea.
"Although his profession had no bearing on the invention of the Sock Cop, it was instrumental in the naming of the product," says Susan O’Connor, Rich’s wife and mother of four.
Now, four years later, the product has helped thousands of families sort socks, prevent lost and mismatched socks, and lessen the overall stress load with doing laundry.
This handy clip is made from a unique material that is designed to withstand extremely high temperatures – so it’s safe to use in the washer and dryer.
And since the Sock Cop has no sharp edges or metal components it won’t damage socks.
“Basically Sock Cop serves as a ‘handcuff’ for socks,” says O’Connor. “They stay together so you’re not wasting money buying new socks.”
Applying the clip is easy. Squeeze open to attach the clip to a pair socks then throw into the wash. O’Connor says when the laundry cycle is done, simply keep the clips on the socks and put them away.
When the Sock Cop first came out, it was only available on the company Web site. Then The Container Store began carrying it, and now, the Sock Cop is being sold at select Bed Bath and Beyond stores across the U.S.
“This is going to make it so much easier for people to find the Sock Cop,” says O’Connor.
Cathy Lee, a mother of three children, believes the Sock Cop saves her loads of time doing a wash. To save even more time, she keeps Sock Cops on the washing machine and in the sock drawer, to clip the socks as soon as the kids take off their socks to prevent sorting.
“That way socks stay together before they hit the laundry bin,” says Lee.
