Florida Museum of Photographic Arts to open ‘Undiscovered Self’ exhibition by Jerry Uelsmann

(PR NewsChannel) / June 22, 2016 / TAMPA, Fla.

FMOPAPlease visit the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts for the opening of Undiscovered Self, an exhibition by innovative photographic artist Jerry Uelsmann. The exhibition runs through December 16, 2016.

Undiscovered Self serves as a retrospective exhibition of Uelsmann’s work spanning over the last 50 years.  He prevails as the forerunner of photomontage in America in the 20th century as he employs multiple negatives to create intricate darkroom works of art.  The process involves the combination of his ever growing negatives collection and numerous enlargers to produce the final, dream-like image.  Uelsmann’s  re-contextualized interpretation of landscape and reality dynamically require the viewer to critically analyze their own understanding of the surreal composition.

“We are absolutely delighted to be exhibiting the work of a darkroom pioneer who creates such unique photographic arts.  Mr. Uelsmann’s meditative photomontages arouse curiosity in anyone who views them” says Zora Carrier, PhD FMoPA’s Executive Director.

The Florida Museum of Photographic Arts is one of fewer than ten museums in the United States dedicated exclusively to photography and one of two such museums in the state of Florida. FMoPA seeks to enrich the lives of the citizens of the Tampa Bay area by providing rare, specialized access to the wonders of photography not only as an aesthetic form but also as a multi-faceted historical and contemporary document of our world through exhibitions, education, outreach programs, and local collaborations.

Admission is free for members. Admission for not-yet members: $10.00
