Girls Inc logo“Our gala is an opportunity to recognize philanthropic figures that have shared time, talent, and treasure to the benefit of our Girls Inc girls. Mrs. Kathryn Schoen and Dr. Meg Delgado have both earned our “Champions Spotlight” award and we will applaud their generous efforts at the Girls Inc Gala on March 4th, said Kristina Fortner, Executive Director of Girls Inc of Pinellas.

Kathryn Schoen has been a member of the St Petersburg community since the mid-90’s and has been involved with Girls Inc for many years, as a volunteer, advocate, donor and financial sponsor of their scholarship programs. Above and beyond the financial support given to Girls Inc annually, Kathryn has led her family foundation to fund $30,000 towards the purchase of new vehicles. “Reliable transportation in out-of-school time programs is a high priority for the safety of our participants and to reach more girls with impact, and it is a current focus of our Strategic Plan”, explained Fortner.

Dr Meg Delgado is the academic chair in the College of Education at St Petersburg College. “Meg works hands-on with our girls to bring a variety of programs to our center, like the Science of Drumming, when she and 25 of her students along with staff of Giving Tree Music provided lessons to 60 of our girls. Last summer she and her students brought in all of the materials to teach the girls about shark dissection,” described Fortner. “Her contributions to our academic programs are invaluable!”

The event, presented by HSN Cares, will take place at The Club at Treasurer Island on Friday, March 4th from 7:00 – 10:30 pm. The Club at Treasure Island is located at 400 Treasure Island Causeway, Treasure Island, FL 33706. Tickets are $100 and are available online at www.girlsinc-pinellas.org or by calling 727-544-6230 ext 112.

Girls Inc of Pinellas provides the “Girls Inc Experience” through mentoring relationships, intentional programming, research-based curricula, interactive activities, and sustained exposure in a girls-only environment. The organization targets both short-term and long-term outcome goals in three focus areas: healthy living, academic enrichment and support, and life skills instruction.
