Tampa dermatologist Forman dermatology and skin cancer instituteWith Eczema Awareness Month in full swing, one Tampa area doctor is putting a spotlight on the burdensome skin condition.

Tampa dermatologist, Dr. Seth Forman, who is currently performing a clinical trial on the disease, has witnessed the unfortunate symptoms of eczema firsthand and feels the condition deserves all the attention it can get.

“Eczema is a disease that not only affects the health of those who suffer from it, but also their way of life,” says Dr. Forman. “The physical toll the disease takes frequently results in lost sleep, missed work and significant healthcare costs.”

Also known as atopic dermatitis, eczema is a skin condition characterized by irritated skin due to the release of inflammatory chemicals in the body. Common symptoms include a combination of itchy, dry and red patchy skin on areas of the body including the face, hands and neck.

According to the population-based analysis of 2010 and 2012 data from the National Health Interview Survey, U.S. adults with eczema reported they had significantly higher health care costs, use of resources and lost workdays, than adults who didn’t have eczema.

The skin condition was also associated to 53 percent higher odds of losing six or more workdays, with considerably higher odds of doctor visits, emergency departments, urgent care centers, and hospitals for varying causes.

Dr. Forman’s latest clinical trials for the disease have resulted in noticeable improvement for those participating in the study.

The encouraging results have led the Tampa dermatologist to believe the treatment is here to stay.

“We’ve witnessed very encouraging results from these trials and we’re excited to keep moving forward,” says Dr. Forman. “We continue to look for new participants to get involved in what I believe will be the new wave of eczema treatment.”

Dr. Forman is the founder of Forman Dermatology and Skin institute, located in Tampa, Fla. and has appeared on TV shows across the country, including the nationally syndicated show “The Doctors” to provide sun-protection tips and to demonstrate his breakthrough skin cancer treatments.
