Yank Barry (@YankBarry), Chairman and Founder of Global Village Champions Foundation, has joined the Real-Time Academy of Short Form Arts & Sciences.

Barry is a three-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee who enjoyed 30 years in the music industry as a singer, composer, arranger, producer and publisher. He’s also a successful food entrepreneur.

“Yank’s philanthropic efforts have now expanded from feeding the hungry around the world to freeing and caring for refugees who escaped terror in Syria, Iraq and Iran,” the Shorty Awards wrote in a blog post. “We’re so excited to have him on our board.”

SHORTY AWARDSThe Shorty Awards, also known as the Shortys, are an annual awards event, recognizing the people and organizations producing real-time short form content across Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, YouTube, Instagram, Vine, and the rest of the social Web. The awards ceremony takes place in April in New York City and are livestreamed to a global audience.

Winners are selected by members of the Real-Time Academy of Short Form Arts & Sciences which is comprised of luminaries from advertising, media, entertainment and the internet. The group includes Apple co-founder Steve “The Woz” Wozniak, actor Adam Scott, CMO of Virgin America Luanne Calvert, celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, actor and producer Nick Cannon, Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger, YouTube Comedy Duo The Fine Bros, Craigslist founder Craig Newmark, actress and philanthropist Alyssa Milano, co-founder and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post Arianna Huffington, Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, Yank Barry and more.

Barry, along with his friend and partner Muhammad Ali and his wife, Yvette, have fed over a billion meals to the lost and forgotten worldwide through Global Village Champions Foundation.
