military armed forces discountsPR NewsChannel, the global press release newswire, salutes U.S. military personnel by offering a 10% discount to U.S. veteran owned businesses.

“This is our way of saying thank you to the men and women who put their lives on the line,” says Glenn Selig, president and CEO of Selig Multimedia, Inc., which owns and operates PR NewsChannel (prnewschannel.com). “We want to help veterans be successful entrepreneurs or business owners.”

U.S. military personnel must be “Eligible Service Members” who own at least 51 percent of the company and be in control of management and day-to-day operations of the business. “Eligible Service Members” are active or retired members of the U.S. Military, including the National Guard, Reservists and the U.S. Coast Guard.

The discounting to veteran owned businesses applies to all services offered by PR NewsChannel.

A study by the Office of Advocacy of the U.S. Small Business Administration sites these statistics when it comes to veteran owned businesses:

• There were 2.45 million businesses with majority ownership by veterans.
• These veteran-owned firms had sales/receipts of $1.220 trillion, 5.793 million employees, and an annual payroll of $210 billion.
• Veteran-owned firms represented 9.0 percent of all U.S. firms.
• One-third of all veteran-owned firms were found in two industries: the professional, scientific, and technical services group (16.9 percent), and construction (15.5 percent). Significant shares of veteran owned firms were also found in other services (9.9 percent), real estate (8.9 percent), and
retail trade (8.1 percent).

The Small Business Administration rhetorically asks business owners on its website whether public relations (PR) is an essential part of their small business marketing.

“It should be,” says the SBA. “Because done well, PR can help promote your business for the long term in a way that a paid advertisement never will.”
