EPSON MFP imageAs of April 1, University Village, one of Tampa’s most established Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC’s), was acquired by Indianapolis based BVM. Just six days later, the Masterpiece Living Community gave the new additions the welcoming they deserved.

On April 8, University Village hosted a welcoming gathering of over 300 residents and 140 staff members for incoming president and CEO, John Bartle, as well as key BVM board members and staff.

“Our mission at BVM is to develop, own and operate health care and residential communities designed to meet the housing, health, personal and financial security needs of seniors,” Bartle said during the event. “We are a non-sectarian, not-for-profit organization and University Village was purchased as a long term investment for the company.  We look forward to working closely with the residents and staff at this very dynamic community located next to USF, Moffitt Center, Veterans’ and Florida Hospitals.”

Bartle also noted that the 64-year-old company owns, operates or consults with over 35 senior living communities, totaling 3,000 units in four states.

“The staff and residents are very pleased to have BVM’s leadership become part of our community,” said Tim Parker, University Village’s executive director. “We are also looking forward to their investment in capital improvements to enhance the community.”

Parker, who has been involved with the community for the past 18 years, will continue his leadership role.

Founded in 1950 under the name Bethany Village Ministries, the company, now known as BVM, has also partnered with AgeWell Senior Living, a Florida-based management company, to continue providing management services at University Village.

AgeWell has provided oversight for the community for the past 14 years.

“AgeWell’s operating philosophy is to create senior living environments where growth for residents and staff is the currency,” said Mark Lichtenwalner, president of AgeWell.

University Village is located at 12401 N. 22nd Street in Tampa. The community offers 492 independent living apartment homes and villas, 90 assisted living apartments, 20 memory care suites and 120 skilled nursing beds.
