The Bipartisan Coalition for American Security (BCAS) today announced that retired four-star Army Gen. Jack Keane has been named Vice-Chair of the new group, which is led by Co-Chairmen Senators Joe Lieberman (I-CT) and Scott Brown (R-MA).

Gen. Keane is the latest prominent official in Washington and national security circles to join BCAS, which is steadily building a strong, bipartisan and apolitical core leadership team.

This month, BCAS will announce a slate of additional new members who fit that mold.

Former Senators Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) and Scott Brown (R-Mass.) were named co-honorary chairmen over the summer.

“General Keane has always taken a thoughtful, deliberate and non-political approach to military involvement and engagement in the world,” said Sen. Lieberman. “There is no one person I rely on more for advice on matters of national security and no one better suited to be a Vice-Chair for the Bipartisan Coalition than General Keane. I am thrilled he is joining as we build the Coalition.”

Added Elliott Broidy, chairman of the BCAS Advisory Board: “General Keane is extremely well-respected in all military and national security matters. We’re so honored to have someone of his stature involved with BCAS.”

Working with like-minded Democrats, Republicans, and Independents, BCAS seeks to ensure that America offers the strong, principled leadership that is needed to safeguard our future.

Retiring from the U.S. military in 2003, Gen. Keane continued to be involved in national security as a member of the Secretary of Defense’s Policy Board for nine years. He also conducted many assessments in Iraq and Afghanistan for senior defense officials, completing the last, in Afghanistan in 2012. General Keane is best known for recommending to President Bush the surge strategy that was successfully implemented in Iraq.

“I believe that when America’s leadership is strong in the world the world is a safer place. As such, America requires a strong military to meet our global responsibilities and to protect our national security interests. I am very honored to be a part of BCAS as we have common goals to provide for America’s security as our number one bi-partisan objective,” said Gen. Jack Keane.

Gen. Jack Keane is the former Vice Chief of Staff of the United States Army, a career infantry paratrooper, decorated for valor in the Vietnam War, who commanded the legendary 101st Airborne Division and the famed 18th Airborne Corps, the Army’s largest war fighting organization.

Founded earlier this year, BCAS (www.bcasnews.com),  the Bipartisan Coalition for American Security is dedicated to the proposition that the prosperity, freedom and security of Americans at home depends upon the exercise of strong and principled American leadership abroad.

BCAS believes in an engaged and proactive U.S. foreign policy and the tools needed to sustain it, including keeping America’s military the strongest in the world, international spending that protects American allies and promotes American values, and a bold pro-trade agenda that produces economic growth for all.

BCAS also engages in research, education, and advocacy on behalf of a bipartisan internationalist foreign policy.
