It was the biggest news story of the day: A second Carnival Cruise Line ship became stuck, this time in St. Maarten. But the focus of the story quickly became Carnival and its public relations nightmare. WTVT, Fox 13, the Fox Owned and Operated station in Tampa (www.myfoxtampabay.com), turned to Glenn Selig for his expert PR opinion.

“When asked by WTVT I said that as a crisis PR expert I would strongly recommend that Carnival take serious steps to send a strong message to the public that the company was on top of the crisis, aware of its severity and is taking all the necessary steps to inspect its fleet to prevent another mechanical issue,” said Selig.

“Two times in a few weeks is bad luck or a sign of something else. A third problem would, in my opinion, signal a systemic problem to the public.”

Selig says Carnival needs to convince the public that it is not skimping on maintenance and that it is doing all it can to ensure their safety.

“The public understands that accidents happen but so many similar types of problems in a short period of time may cause a people to stay away from Carnival,” says Selig. “The public is not stupid. They will likely say ‘what’s the odds of this happening again?’ And the more it happens the better the odds of it happening again.”

Selig is an award-winning former TV news anchor and investigative reporter who enjoyed a successful 20-year career in news before starting The Publicity Agency (TPA) in early 2007.  Since then, Selig, and his company, The Publicity Agency, have been involved with some of the biggest crisis management PR cases in the U.S. and many notable, national publicity campaigns.

Selig is frequently called on by network and cable news networks, radio stations and print publications nationwide for his expert PR opinion on news events. Glenn has been sought out by ABC News, TV Guide, CNN, CBC News, Agence French Presse, Hollywood Life, local news and many others. He is also a popular public speaker at business conferences and media events.

“It means a lot that Fox 13, Tampa chose to interview me for my expert opinion on this PR crisis,” says Selig. “I take it as an extreme compliment.”
