ClickStartMe.com, the recently launched website that “puts the fun in crowdfunding” announced that the first project created on the site reached its fundraising goal. Benjamin Haukoos, a self-proclaimed “Fashion Designer, Cover-Tattoo-Exotic Model and Humanitarian” raised $10,000 through his ClickStartMe project to benefit the Humane Society of Freeborn County and raise awareness for the therapeutic role that pets and animals play in the lives of people everywhere.
Haukoos was able to raise the funds in less than 30 days by promoting the project to both friends and fans through social media networks. The funds will help the Minnesota-based Humane Society to purchase much-needed medical supplies and to cover sheltering expenses for cats and dogs as well as provide food, toys and other necessities. Donors who sponsored the project got more than just good karma for their contributions: Haukoos offered creative rewards ranging from personalized modeling postcards and photographs to a pledge to perform 20 pushups on video for each dollar raised. Haukoos credits the success of his crowdfunding project to a great cause and great incentives and rewards to motivate people to get involved.
Now that he’s motivated people to give, he’s ready to muster his own motivation to keep his part of the bargain. “You do the math,” Haukoos said while laughing during a recent interview. “I raised $10,000 on ClickStartMe, and now I get to do 200,000 pushups. My personal trainer will be counting. I hope he has a calculator handy.”
Haukoos is already working on his next ClickStartMe project to follow the success of his first one. In addition, Haukoos is helping several friends get ready to start crowdfunding projects on the site. For the project he just finished, Haukoos parlayed his Internet presence and social media skills to promote awareness of his project. His keen marketing savvy pushed thousands to the project quickly, but his unique rewards were the catalyst in raising the funds. In addition to the autographed photos and pushups, Haukoos will make good on a promise to take one large donor and three of the donor’s friends out for a night on the town in a limo.
“I cannot thank my donors enough for their support and generosity, “ Haukoos said. “And I look forward to that night on the town and the limo ride. My arms will probably be too tired to drive anyway after all the pushups.”
By creating a crowdfunding project on ClickStartMe, Haukoos was also entered into the site’s ongoing spokesmodel contest. Ten finalists will be flown to Las Vegas on May 18, 2013 where they will compete on stage at hot Vegas nightclub The Act to become the first ClickStartMe spokesmodel. The winner will take home a $5000 cash prize and the opportunity to work with other ClickStartMe project creators in many career-enhancing ways.
“I am a huge fan of ClickStartMe and would love to be selected as their first Spokesmodel, ” Haukoos said. “I was excited to have the first project on the site, thrilled to be the first to be fully funded and would be ecstatic to be their spokesmodel and to help them grow into the number one crowdfunding site.”
According to Forbes magazine, crowdfunding is a growing $2.8 billion industry that allows people or businesses to obtain small donations from a large number of people to support a project, cause or other financial need. Unlike its competitors, ClickStartMe.com provides individuals and businesses with an opportunity to easily raise funds online for almost any legitimate purpose, and also gives its users an online store in which to sell their products after funding. ClickStartMe also recognizes the mass appeal of television shows such as “The Voice,” “America’s Next Top Model” and “Shark Tank” and has added this variable into the mix for online crowdfunding by holding contests for its users with valuable prizes and trips to exciting locations.
