PR expert tangles with CNN host Nancy Grace

'PR Guru' Glenn Selig of The Publicity Agency holds his own on live TV on NANCY GRACE.

CNN host Nancy Grace labeled him a ‘PR Guru’ and challenged him on live national TV, but publicist Glenn Selig aggressively defended his client’s right to fair representation in the court of public opinion.

Selig represents Drew Peterson, the former Bolingbrook, Ill. police officer accused in the disappearance of his fourth wife Stacy.

“The media coverage has been incredible,” says Selig, “and my client is unfairly being portrayed as a monster.”

Selig says people believe he is responsible for his wife’s disappearance because of how he’s been portrayed on national, cable and local news programs.

“Some of that portrayal is Drew’s own fault because of his one-liners and jokes when it seemed to be an inappropriate time to be joking. He takes responsibility for his own antics,” says Selig.  “There is more to Drew than that.  However wrong it seemed at the time and in retrospect it was how he coped and he recognizes that.”

Peterson says he’s angry at his wife because he says he believes she ran off with another man.

The host of Nancy Grace, the show that carries her name on CNN Headline News, Grace challenged Selig for trying to shape Peterson’s image and criticized Peterson for paying a publicist when she believes he should instead be contributing to his wife’s search effort.

“Drew is fighting for his reputation and if this case goes to trial he could be fighting for his life,” says Selig.  “In this country you are innocent until proven guilty and people should not conclude his guilt because the media wants to be one-sided.”

Grace accused Peterson of exploiting his young children after allowing them to be videotaped as part of an Associate Press report.

Selig told Grace that some people might say she exploited her newborn twins by using them to promote a parenting contest on her show.

“I don’t believe she is exploiting her children,” says Selig, “Nor do I believe that Drew is exploiting his children because he wants people to know he’s an excellent father who cares for his children.  This is part of who he is.”

Selig says that Grace has a problem with portraying the softer side of Peterson because she thinks he’s guilty “and that’s the only story she’s interested in telling.”
